Literature Reviews Beyond PubMed: Crafting Effective Searches in Other Databases

Literature Reviews Beyond PubMed: Crafting Effective Searches in Other Databases Online

Join Librarian Geri for a 5-minute 1:1 consult to review the array of research literature databases, many of which contain relevant content not included in PubMed. Feel free to bring a colleague to this appointment.  Unfortunately, it’s not always clear how to identify these alternate databases, much less craft effective strategies for searching them. This session is designed to help students more confidently identify and explore the SMU Library's rich collection of research databases. Learning objectives:

  • Understand the use of search operators and syntax (Boolean operators, truncation, phrase searching, adjacency operators)
  • Learn how to identify the best databases for your research project
  • Find peer-reviewed, scholarly journal articles
  • DATABASES INCLUDED: Cochrane Library, Ovid MEDLINE, Trip Database Pro, EBSCO databases (PsycINFO, CINAHL, MEDLINE)

Of course, if this day and time does not work for your schedule, email Geri Bodeker with a request for a more convenient appointment.
